As Above

A lone chair sits on one of the lower peaks in Stough Canyon, at the end of a very unlikely trail just off the saddle.  Words etched on the wooden boards: “In Loving Memory of Michael O’Brien”.

On those days I hiked these trails, I always paid this chair a visit because it reminded me that there were a lot to be thankful for: the mountain where I stood, the sea that gleamed in my eyes, the sky painted with vapor trail, the city below that I want to conquer someday, and this stranger whose life would lead to the creation of this chair, sitting up there in Stough Canyon, at the end of an unlikely trail, waiting for the tired and weary and hopeful.
